Ohio Veterans' Home

Ohio Veterans' Home

emersion DESIGN provided general architectural, interior design, engineering, and sustainable consulting services for facilities within the Veterans Affairs Dayton, Columbus, and Chillicothe campuses. Facilities include a 500 bed medical center, nursing care facilities (265 beds), acute care facilities (120 beds), domiciliary living units (115 beds), and support services. Projects include design for non-recurring maintenance construction projects for clinical, administrative, engineering, housing, hospice, respite care, and support facilities. Services provided in support of Veteran’s Affairs programs and support services for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and eleven area hospitals. All work is designed to phase construction and provides adequate temporary facilities to accommodate ongoing clinic operations, patient access, and comfort.

The addition creates a much needed multipurpose room to accommodate religious services, group activities, and community outreach for 150 residents of the facility. A new community access entrance was proposed along with an outdoor pavilion seating area for residents and families to enjoy the outdoors. The project scope also included a physical therapy suite, staff classrooms, staff computer room, clinician simulation rooms, exit access stairwell, unisex handicap accessible restrooms, Chaplin’s office, storage rooms, and a restorative nurse manager’s office. The interior design scheme for the addition integrates concepts from the Eden Alternative Philosophy as well as Evidence-Based Design.
