Are Net Zero Energy retrofits possible?

And Melink, an HVAC firm, won the “Prosperity” award for its new Milford headquarters, which shows off the company’s commitment to energy efficiency.

Steve Melink, the owner of a LEED-NC Gold and LEED-EB Platinum facility, called upon emersion DESIGN to assist in developing strategies toward achieving Net Zero Energy by the end of 2010. emersion DESIGN sent their staff of 3 former US Green Building Council Regional Chapter Presidents to provide the expertise. The team set forth analyzing the existing conditions, including thermal imagery, electric utility usage, and peak load consumption. The team presented a thorough debriefing of other successful net zero projects and related them to the existing office and warehouse building. The zone concept was conveyed as a potential for retrofit, and the team provided construction documents for carrying out that strategy. A plug load study educated the client team toward a revisit of energy needs assessment. The building has been named the "33rd Greenest Building in the World" and is one of the rare Net Zero Energy commercial retrofits on the planet.
