The University of Cincinnati selected emersion DESIGN to renovate UC’s Blue Ash Campus’ primary academic building. Muntz Hall is a 172,000 sf building containing classrooms, faculty offices, and support spaces.
Project scope includes extensive interior renovations, exterior building envelope improvements, complete MEP systems replacement, addition of alternative energy sources to provide a complete renewal of the building so it may continue as the campus’ principle academic and student service facility. The work will be phased over a 4-5-year period to accommodate continued occupancy and use of the building. The first stage of work was developing a master plan, programming, and facility audit. Envelope upgrade includes exterior skin, glazing and roof replacement.
Each program space will address current academic and University standards to provide an integrated learning environment. Individual spaces include a mix of active learning & traditional classrooms, physics & learning labs, private faculty and open office space, academic student services offices, open lounge & meeting spaces, break rooms, and student life areas. Systems renovations include a new HVAC system supported by geothermal wells, new fire alarm and sprinkler systems, new lighting, power and communications systems throughout the entire building.
