Cincinnati Public Radio (CPR) is an award winning, non-profit broadcasting organization providing news and classical music to an annual audience of over 280,000 listeners. Contributing to the vitality of the community and its long-term future has always been inherent in CPR’s mission. When it was time to build their new home, CPR and its supporters envisioned a forward-looking building that values environmental sustainability as well as occupant and community wellness. Their new 32,000 sf headquarters is designed, engineered, and built to engage the community, promote professional growth and collaboration, and satisfy the technological and operational needs of a vibrant community resource for the immediate and long-term future.
As a 24-7 broadcasting facility, incorporating safety, health, and wellness were among the most critical aspects to CPR. Secure, layered access points will help ensure user safety. Staff and guests will have direct access to an adjacent park for meetings, meal breaks, or as part of an individual’s exercise regimen. The CPR facility is Cincinnati’s first to incorporate a modern mass timber structure, and the first two-story mass timber building in the region. Mass timber sequesters carbon emissions, and the interior exposed wood provides a distinctive warmth and richness, reducing the need to add other finishes.
