schmidlapp gallery
The Schmidlapp Gallery at the Cincinnati Art Museum is typically the first dedicated art exhibit space encountered by visitors. It was re-envisioned by Director Cameron Kitchin to be a distinctly Cincinnati invitation—to relax, to learn, and to engage art and each other.
Once a windowless and dark, the gallery was transformed into a daylit space with the addition of large windows that offer a spectacular view to the Museum’s central courtyard. It features the 80 foot “Mural of Cincinnati” by Saul Steinberg, as well digital kiosks and grouped seating vignettes surrounding the sculptures. Mesh shades are used during visiting hours, combined with blackout shades for all other times, to limit light exposure and offer the optimum environment for viewing the mural.
Color adjustable lighting and the connection to the courtyard and terrace make it a desirable rental venue for smaller cocktail and banquet events, as well as a compelling and sophisticated component of larger evening and corporate events.
