Project entailed the complete renovation of a 1934 three-story historic hangar to provide state-of-the-art energy, power and thermal laboratories for the Air Force Laboratories Propulsion Directorate. The former hangar turned high-tech laboratory supports advance research in electrochemistry, mechanical energy conversion, thermal management, power distribution, and power electronics for aviation propulsion systems. The modern laboratory facility design accommodates a number of special requirements including acoustic separation, hazardous space classification, and blast explosive containment. Specific areas and laboratories include RF shielded labs, SCIF spaces, high-bay research labs, test cells, a turbo-generator lab, fabrications shops, advanced battery research labs, clean rooms, and administrative spaces.
